Bad Breath or Perio Breath - What is the Relation Between Gum Disease and Halitosis?


Many times, we notice bad breath of our friends. During chit chat, we feel their unpleasant odor coming out of the mouth. We may think that he/she has eaten a lot of garlic or onion. Well, perio breath from your mouth does not indicate your meal always. You can have a perio breath due to gum disease. Now, the question is, what is the association between gum disease and bad breath?

What are the Symptoms of Gums Diseases?
The fundamental reason behind any gum disease is your poor oral health. When you do not clean your mouth, gums, and teeth regularly, you may suffer from gum disease, cavity, tooth extraction, and periodontist. Many people do not think that their mouth needs a proper cleaning system and hygiene care routine. Many people do not believe that there are germs and bacteria in the mouth. People usually think that they eat clean food, then how there may be germs and bacteria in the mouth. Well, take a reality check, when you do not wash off your remaining food particles, they develop bacteria. The germs from the stuck food create gum diseases.

Gum diseases have two stages. When the issue is not at its intense level, dentists called it gingivitis. Therefore, the critical state of the gum disease can create too many acute matters, for your oral health, the dentists called it periodontitis. The initial phase of the gum disease is reversible. However, periodontitis, the breakdown of gum tissues is, irreversible.

Periodontitis and Perio Breath
Perio breath caused by the unremoved bacteria and germs of the mouth. Bad breath, also called ad halitosis. When a person does not care about the mouth bacteria, these unwashed germs break the proteins that are present in one's mouth. The broken proteins deliver volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs). In the result of the volatile sulfur compounds, a person’s mouth releases a perio breath.

The oral diseases such as gums infection or cavity can let out the bad odor from the mouth. The intensity of the oral smell can feel by everyone who is in front of you or to whom you are talking with.

When a dentist says about oral hygiene, it does not only belong to gums and teeth. You need to clean your tongue as well. Many people do not realize that there is a layer of bacteria on their tongue. With the help of a toothbrush, you should clean your entire mouth, either it is gums, teeth, or tongue. When you do no wash your mouth carefully, your oral health becomes progressively worse. Thus, the results are gingivitis and periodontitis.

Treatment of Bad Breath

Well, the best treatment for bad odor is in your home. You should use an antibacterial mouth wash to get rid of perio breath. Moreover, you should examine your teeth twice a day, if there is any plaque or food particle that exists, you should immediately brush it away or floss.

However, when it comes to medical and professional treatment, dentists use scaling, mouth cleaning, and root planning methods. In every method, the dentist will remove the plaque and coat of bacteria from your teeth, gums, and mouth.
